This is so interesting! Im excited to do more!
Unlike from the past National Costumes worn by the candidates of the Philippines during the annual Ms. Universe, this year will probably be different from the usual. Maria Clara and Filipiniana attires which presents a conservative image of every Filipina is something that we observed over and over again. This time, another creation which is a lot different from what we have observed from the past is expected for our candidate to wear for the next Ms. Universe to be held in Sao Paolo, Brazil.
The said costume was made by a designer from the City of Koronadal, South Cotabato named Jearson Demavivas. The design is inspired by the B’laans (Tribal People in South Cotabato) to which fabrics used was T’nalak; it is a B’laan made fabric through weaving which is believed to represent the dreams of the B’laans. Together with the said fabric, it is embellished with beads and and metal chains constructed in a very unique and complicated way. Contrast from the usual, the said costume is a lot sexier as it shows most of the person’s skin because of the embellishments.
BPCI is expected to support the said attire to bring it all the way in Sao Paolo, Brazil and it is expected this time for the Philippines having a greater chance to be awarded as the Best in National Costume. So far, Philippines wasn’t yet able to bring home National Costume award since Ms. Universe started. Aside from the other National Costumes of the Philippines which has an issue such as it is not Made in the Philippines. This time, it is expected to be truly Filipino.
Also, the said costume was considered the best during the Reyna ng Aliwan 2010. SImilar design also made by a designer from the same city (City of Koronadal) named Ivan Raborar won in the Miss Earth as Ms. Paula Henry represented the said design. Unfortunately, during the Bb. Pilipinas 2011 Primer it wasn’t considered the best but it is considered as one of the most stunning costumes during that evening.
